Beauty Tip: How to Look Your Best in Photos
Looking your best in photos is not as simple as it may seem. Here are a few quick tips to put you at ease on that special day and beyond.
Makeup
1. Keep it classic. The look that is fabulous now will look dated in a couple of years and you will wish that you had not been so trendy. Use a matte makeup (even if shine and glitter are in) and keep the shine down. In photos, shine will make you look sweaty and dirty.
2. Do not use too much blush. If it's a special occasion, like your wedding, you will probably be hot and flushed from all the fussing and will not need that extra blush. Instead, use contour - on the temples, cheekbones and jaw.
3. Some women are not used to wearing makeup and if this special occasion is their first attempt they may go too light which will make them look washed-out in pictures. A few days or weeks before photo-time (whatever the occasion) get some practice and a little help. If you are uncomfortable doing your makeup for special occasions and don't know a lot about makeup application or contouring get the help of a professional.
4. Don't wear cool, dark lipsticks for black and white photos, they will make your lips look very dark.
5. For touch ups carry a powder compact and a lipstick. Redoing makeup will give you a cakey look.
6. Don't wear heavy eyeliner or mascara. Bright light can make eye makeup look very harsh and eyes will stand out as black blobs. To enhance the eyes use more color such as highlighter under the brow, pale colors in the crease and darker colors near the base of the eyelash. Use eyeliner and mascara, but just a little. For example, dip the mascara brush once and do both eyes - twice at the most. Keep the eyeliner thin and very close to the lashes - you shouldn't be able to see a line.
Hair
1. Make sure you get your hair cut a week or so before the photos and if you are planning a new style - try it before photo day.
2. Don't use so many hair products that your hair is like a helmet. Also, really neat hair will make you look older.
3. Go easy on accessories and like makeup stick to a classic look. Don't have your hair, makeup or accessories date the photo.
