Makeup Over 50

Reaching fifty brings many changes in our body and skin.
To look younger and more vibrant we must work with those
changes to accentuate our positive features. The first step
is to rethink your makeup routine. Makeup techniques that
worked for you fifteen or twenty years ago will be aging as
you move into your fifties.

The great thing about makeup after 50 is that we look better
with less - less is more as the old saying goes. You probably
don't have the desire to learn new makeup techniques but you
will need to know which old ones to abandon.

The key to great looking skin and makeup at any age is a
fantastic complexion. To start your makeup routine your skin
should be free of dead skin cells. If you don't exfoliate regularly
now is the time to start. Foundation will only look as good as
the skin it covers.

1. Now that you have exfoliated your skin, it is time
for makeup. Start with a moisturizer and moisture based formulas
for foundation.

2. Use foundation in moderation - just a sheer application
in a tone that is as close as possible to your natural skin color.

3. Use a cream blush in a muted color that blends easily.
Apply the blush in the apple of your cheekbones, no lower than
your nose. Blend, blend, blend. Blush should look like a
natural glow.

4. Apply a little powder, with a powder brush over entire
face.

5. The next step is mascara. You will need only one coat.
If you would like your lashes to look longer use an eyelash curler
(after you have applied the mascara).

6. Use eyeliner sparingly and never on the bottom of lids.

7. Lips should be slightly colored. Natural color lipsticks
are best. Choose rose-colored lipstick for cools and coral tones
for warms.

To keep your makeup looking its absolute best, as you grow older,
use moisture-based products and avoid vibrant colors and shimmer
eye shadows. Shimmer and lively colors will accentuate the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
